Turn-based combat & a rant...
An issue I've been having lately is if I should even try to make a dice system for the land or just stick with turn-based (TB), which it was orginally. While keeping dice for gambling or tossing a coin, NOT for deciding what gets hit when. Logically speaking, all characters have to have weaknesses and the muns have acknowledge the hits/attacks - then we'll do something about it.
In other words, be mature when role-playing.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the way things are turning out here on AOL. Too many of us are roll-playing, instead of role-playing (playing out a role - a character). Too many of us are putting in, "need mun concent." or "no killing my character."
Yes, we have control over the character. But I also accept the fact that things happen that we don't think of. For example, that random person who walks into the bar and flirts with you or steals your money. If you deny it happened, you just might be denying an excellent storyline/plot. Sometimes the best plots are not planned out!!
Enough of that though. What are your thoughts? Anyone?

For the most part, I agree with your post.
Like you, Kay, I'm not a huge fan of the way people seem to have a dependancy on dice these days. That, and their lack of posting. Non-combatingly, you've been in most chat rooms lately - there are too many of us that type up 2 lines and think it's good. There are too many medieval knights who say, "Hey dude, whatta up to?" Too many people who demand, "only with mun consent."
We, as a role-playing group, can not change how other people role-play. We must acknowledge the fact that role-playing can be better, and do our best to play our best.[/b]
That being said, we have discussed the combat rp in our little peice of internet RPG. Sticking with TB, but giving an alternative that uses dice but not as a point damage system. Using dice to tell how accurate the attack that was typed worked - with simple, 1d10 dice. At least that is what we're leaning towards, right?
Royalty and G.Cs and other leaders don't get higher dice, immortals don't get different dice than other races. Because the mun, the controller, should be able to be mature enough to acknowledge that the other character is faster, stronger, slower, weaker - whichever the case. In this way, allowing the controllers involved to say what type of damage and where, but if using the dice - having the dice say how accurate it is to the target (total miss, avg hit, exceptional).
For those of you who have not been a part of this conversation, we are still working on a way of describing this in words so we can put it on the website. Be patient, if any questions - do not hesitate to ask.

How strange that nearly a year has passed and these same feelings are re-surfacing again.
I look around and wonder just what the hell I'm doing here. I'm tired of the fragmentation. I'd love for organizations to come together; not to fall apart into seperate cliques.
As you said just over a year ago that the best plots are not planned out. Certainly Queen Diamond's own history with Alantica is testiment to that, as you and I know. Too bad Balatine wasn't as developed or else it would of made for one hell of an on-going war.
Maybe it's time for me to just quit RP. No matter how hard I try, it's not really fun anymore...
